The idea of The Bike Kitchen is to refurbish old bicycles and scraps and turn them into fully functioning bicycles. This will be done with the use of volunteers with the majority of the tools and old bikes donated by local agencies and corporation. Turning scraps into treasures to aid others.
$1000 would greatly help us set up our workshop and space and turn it into something suitable for volunteers to work in. We have space available now in an old loading dock of a Lowes behind the Christiansburg Recreation Center. The money can also be used to buy old bicycles and refurbishing tools and supplies to make them functional. The overall goal is to serve the 19% of the population in Montgomery County in Virginia who live below the poverty line. They have limited access to transportation and this is not beneficial to them because most are isolated. Transportation has proven to lower the cost of groceries, healthcare, childcare, and increase education opportunities.
